10-Minute Evening Yoga for Stress Relief and Relaxation

October 23, 2026 10 min practice Beginner

A gentle evening yoga routine for a calmer pause

When the day has been full, a short yoga practice can create space to slow down. This beginner-friendly 10-minute evening yoga routine for stress relief uses gentle movement, comfortable breathing and a quiet rest. It is a general wellness practice, not treatment for stress, anxiety or any health condition.

Choose a clear space and a time that feels convenient. A mat is optional. Move within a comfortable range, keep your breathing natural, and skip any pose that does not feel right for you.

Your 10-minute relaxation yoga sequence

1. Comfortable Seat (Sukhasana) — 1 minute

Sit on a cushion or chair, let your shoulders soften, and notice your natural breathing. There is no need to change or hold your breath.

2. Cat-Cow Stretch (Marjaryasana-Bitilasana) — 2 minutes

Come to hands and knees if comfortable. Slowly round and lengthen your back in a small, easy range, moving with your breath. You can also practise seated by gently rounding and opening your upper back.

3. Child’s Pose (Balasana) — 2 minutes

From hands and knees, rest your hips back only as far as comfortable and support your head or torso with a cushion. If kneeling is uncomfortable, choose a supported seated rest instead.

4. Reclined Rest — 3 minutes

Lie on your back with knees bent, or rest on your side. Let your arms relax and allow your breathing to settle naturally. A folded blanket under the knees may feel supportive.

5. Closing Pause — 2 minutes

Return to a comfortable seat. Notice the support beneath you and take a moment before moving on with your evening.

Tips for a consistent evening yoga habit

  • Keep the routine short enough to fit your real schedule.
  • Use cushions or a chair to make positions more comfortable.
  • Move slowly and stop if you feel pain, dizziness or unusual discomfort.
  • Choose a quiet setting, but do not worry about making it perfect.

Frequently asked questions

Is evening yoga suitable for beginners?

These movements are described as gentle options, but comfort varies. Use support, choose the seated alternatives, and skip anything that does not suit you.

Can yoga cure stress or anxiety?

No. This routine is shared for general relaxation and wellness. It does not diagnose, treat or cure a condition, and it is not a substitute for professional care.

How often can I do this routine?

You can use it when it feels comfortable in your schedule. If you have an injury, health concern or questions about whether a movement is suitable, speak with a qualified healthcare professional first.
